I know for me playing college level tennis and basketball, I thought I was a fit guy.

But it wasn’t until I started surfing that I really understood how much room I had for improvement. Surfing exposed my weaknesses. Surfing challenged my body in a way it had never been challenged before.

Surfing transformed my perception of what it meant to be fit.

In order to take advantage of every surf session, you need strength, power, flexibility, stamina, balance, agility, courage, perseverance, mental calmness, grit – just to name a few!!

For me, I had some of the elements down, but there was plenty of room to work on.

My flexibility was terrible, my balance was average, and I didn’t have great stamina. I found myself struggling during each surf session. I didn’t feel confident in the water.

I knew preparing my body better would directly lead to more waves, more ability to do more on the wave, longer sessions, and ultimately more FUN in the water.

I had to find the way. There had to be another way. I knew I had to make a change to my training.

I dove into all the fitness research and looked to some of the best surfers in the world to learn how they train and stay so fit. These elite surfers I watched moved so well and made everything look so effortless.

They were flexible and mobile. They had amazing balance. But they also had power and strength to paddle into powerful waves. And they were quick, agile, and adaptable. And of course, they all looked great.

I dedicated the next 5 years of my life to determine what the secret sauce was to attaining that surfer body and all the performance benefits that come along with it.

I made it my mission to find out what it took to get there. As a personal trainer and former athlete, I had been exposed to all different types of training.

Old school strength training focused on lifting a ton of weight and getting very strong. Bodyweight training designed to be versatile and joint friendly. Balance training. TRX training. Sandbag training. You name it, I’ve tried it!

So after years of tinkering, self-experimenting, I found the secret recipe – it’s a special blend of old school strength training using heavy weights combined with stability ball bodyweight exercises - both with a deep focus on breathing and maintaining proper range of motion in your joints.

FAQ

What type of equipment do I need?

You will need access to 2 pairs of dumbbells, one lighter pair (10 lb-20 lbs) and one heavier pair (30 lbs-40 lbs). You will also need an exercise ball.

Does this program work for women?

Yes, absolutely. This program will work well for both men and women. In the nutrition guide, there will be different guidelines for men and women based on bodyweight.

Does this program work for beginners?

Yes, so long as you have some experience with exercise training. If you have never lifted any weights, you'll need to start slowly with lighter weights. And if you are currently out of shape and looking to get back into shape, this program will still work for you as there are different levels of workouts you can choose from.
